Who Enforces Boating Laws?
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, provincial and municipal police forces, and other local authorities enforce the boating laws of Canada.
- Officers have the authority to inspect your pleasure craft and monitor your boating activities to make sure you are complying with the law. This may include checking for safety equipment, checking your Pleasure Craft Operator Card or other proof of competency, or stopping you for careless operation, or stopping you for not complying with any boating restrictions that are in effect.
- An operator who has received a visual or audible signal from an enforcement officer must bring his or her pleasure craft to a stop.
