Paddlecraft Safety Precautions

Paddlers in canoes, kayaks, rafts, or stand-up paddleboards should take extra safety precautions.

• When paddling on an open body of water:
  • Stay close to the bank.
  • If it is necessary to cross a channel, choose the shortest route and cross quickly.
• Follow the additional suggestions given in Unit 6.
