Who Enforces Boating Laws?

Authorized Montana FWP officers have peace officer status for enforcing boating regulations. Sheriffs, peace officers, and USCG law enforcement officers also have authority to enforce these provisions.

• FWP wardens are authorized to stop, halt, or inspect vessels in order to enforce Montana laws.
• The USCG has enforcement authority on federally controlled waters.
