Requirements Specific to PWC

In addition to adhering to all boating laws, PWC operators have requirements specific to their vessel.

• Each person riding on or being towed behind a PWC must wear a USCG–approved Type I, II, or III PFD. It is recommended that those on board a PWC wear PFDs designed to withstand the impact of hitting the water at high speed.
• It is also strongly recommended that an operator of a PWC equipped with a lanyard-type engine cut-off switch always attach the lanyard to his or her person, clothing, or PFD.
