Course Outline

Vessel operators may not hear sound signals or voices if the engine is not adequately muffled.

  • All vessels propelled by internal combustion engines must be equipped with an efficient muffler, underwater exhaust, or other device capable of adequately muffling vessel noise.
  • The use of cutouts or open exhaust stacks is prohibited, except for vessels participating in a race or regatta being held with the approval of the Hawaii DLNR or a federal agency.
