Course Outline

By venturing into the ocean environment, we all assume and accept risk. Potential risks can and often will affect every aspect of your ocean voyage, your enjoyment, and maybe your survival. When things go wrong, hazards seem to team up against you. Whatever you’re planning to do, ask yourself:

  • Can the activity kill you or someone close to you?
  • Can it cause you serious injury or serious injury to someone else?
  • Can your activity result in major property loss?

Then ask yourself, down to the smallest detail, how the situation can do this? You can study the ocean waters before venturing out and take the time to IDENTIFY possible hazards of the waterway. Each one is different. You can also familiarize yourself with the waterway you will be utilizing by meeting the locals in the area to gain a better understanding of currents, local rules of the road and so on.
