Risk Management: Acceptance
This is the final stage of your risk assessment. You are at the point where you choose to accept the risk and implement all strategies for mitigating risk or accept the fact that engaging in the activity is not worth the risk.
While you can’t anticipate every potential hazard, the Ocean Risk Management process can contribute to helping you eliminate or reduce danger to yourself and others.
If you choose to go, choose which controls you want to use and apply them before and during operation.
If you don’t have the equipment, a device, or a strategy and the skill for reducing the risk to acceptable levels, can you let it go? Why not just avoid the risk and choose not to go? Will you train yourself so you will be ready the next time the opportunity presents itself?
Once your voyage is over, prepare a “lessons learned” method for the next time. Be honest with yourself.
