Diver-Down Flags

Scuba divers or snorkelers must display a diver-down flag to mark their diving area. Divers must stay within 75 feet of the flag.

Vessels not engaged in diving operations must stay at least 75 feet away from any displayed diver-down flag.

Two types of flags are used to indicate diving activity.

Divers Flag: A rectangular red flag, at least 8 x 10 inches in size, with a white diagonal stripe

Divers Flag: Red square flag with white diagonal stripe

Alfa Flag: A blue and white International Code Flag A (or Alfa flag); required on federal waters

Alfa Flag: White and blue vertically striped flag
