Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks
A Special Message to the Boaters of Mississippi

It is the mission of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries& Parks (MDWFP) to conserve and enhance Mississippi’s natural resources, to provide continuing outdoor recreational opportunities, to maintain the ecological integrity and aesthetic quality of the resources and to ensure socioeconomic and educational opportunities for present and future generations.

  • The Parks and Recreation Program’s goal is to provide safe, family-oriented recreational opportunities in scenic areas. This program’s primary customers are all Mississippians and out-of-state visitors.
  • The Freshwater Fisheries Management Program’s goal is to manage Mississippi’s fisheries resources. This program’s primary customers are those who fish for sport.
  • The Wildlife Management Program’s goal is to manage Mississippi’s wildlife resources. This program’s primary customers are those who hunt for sport.
  • The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science Program’s goal is to increase knowledge of the natural sciences, particularly in the area of conservation of Mississippi’s wildlife resources. This program’s primary customers are Mississippi’s school children.
  • The Law Enforcement Program’s goal is to protect Mississippi’s natural resources by enforcing statutes and regulations pertaining to freshwater fisheries, wildlife, hunting and boating safety. This program’s primary customers are those who hunt and fish for sport.
  • The Support Services Program’s goal is to provide the ancillary business functions as required by state law and department policy. This program’s primary customers are the license-buying public and all MDWFP employees.
