Illinois Boating License Overview

Boat Illinois is the official boating safety course of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Taking this safe boating course will allow you to get your Illinois boating license online. You must be at least 12 years of age to take the online boating test.

	Study the Illinois safe boating course material and take one or more Practice Tests—free of charge.
	Take the Illinois Boating Exam for $15, collected online. When you pass, you will receive your Illinois certification card, approved by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, by mail within 5-7 business days.

How do I replace my boater education card if I’ve lost it or it has been damaged?

A duplicate can be issued for a $5 charge if the student took (and passed) the Boat Illinois online course. To obtain a duplicate Illinois card, mail the request with a check for $5, payable to BOAT ILLINOIS, to:

Be sure to include the student's full name and date of birth in the mailed request for a duplicate card. You may also phone Customer Service to request the duplicate and pay by credit card.
