California boating safety education certificate?
- The California boating safety education certificate
(also referred to as the California
boaters license) is proof that a boater
has demonstrated basic boating knowledge
by passing an approved
boating safety course and exam.
Do I have
to get a California boating safety education certificate (California boater's
license)?
- Any person convicted of any moving
violation in the Harbors and Navigation
Code, the Federal Rules of the Road
and regulations adopted by the California
Department of Boating and Waterways
while operating a vessel must be ordered
by the court to complete and pass a
boating safety course approved by the
Department of Boating and Waterways.
Proof of completion and passage of
the course must be submitted to the
court within seven months of the time
of the conviction. This boating
safety course will satisfy court-ordered
mandatory boater education required
by California law when a boater is
convicted of a moving violation.
What is the
minimum age to obtain a California
boating safety education certificate?
- You must be at least 13 years of
age to take the online boating test.

- Upon passing, you will receive

your home within 5 -7 business days
after you pass the exam.
Do I get
a temporary card or certificate until
my permanent boater's license arrives?
- No. You will receive your permanent certificate in 5 - 7 business
days.
How do I
replace my boating safety education certificate if
I’ve lost it or it has been damaged?
- A duplicate can be issued for a $5
charge if the student took (and passed)
the Boat California online course.

mail the request with a check for $5,
